UNITED TRAPPERS OF KENTUCKY PRESIDENT’S REPORT NOVERMBER / DECEMBER
As usual, the deadline for this report is just before the Fall Fling, so I cannot cover it here. However, I am sure we will have a great turnout and a successful meet – looking forward to seeing you all there.
Our KY Dept. of Fish & Wildlife is full of turmoil, with the Tourism Cabinet, several legislators and a rogue group of “sportsmen” at war with the Commission and long-standing KDFWR procedure and process in managing our Fish & Wildlife. Until the smoke clears, and we have a handle on who we are dealing with, Steve and I have agreed to suspend activity for the time being regarding trapping regulation improvements. We, and especially Steve, have worked too hard for too long to risk a bad outcome in an uncertain arena.
We are looking forward to putting together a bigger and even better, “Beaver Brigade” in West Kentucky this trapping season. Former 2nd District Commissioner, Frank Williams, has pledged his help to make this happen, even though he was not re-appointed to the Commission by Governor Matt Bevin. We need some trappers to step up and join the Brigade. You’ll have a great time, catch lots of beaver, plus other fur and earn some great P.R. and respect for trapping and the UTK.
