First, for whatever reason, my report was sent in, acknowledged as received, but did not appear in the March/April Trapper’s Post. Steve’s report did appear and was well done, covering a lot of what I had reported plus lots more as well. Sorry for the miss; I believe this was on the 2nd or 3rd time since 2004 I have missed an article.
Trapping is over for the year except for our 2019 March beaver extension. I hope everyone took advantage of this. It puts a positive focus on beaver control.
Of course, the market is still down for furs but clearances look decent for prime fresh goods anyway. Many trappers are taking advantage of Fur Harvesters as another marketing option. Dave Linkhart is putting together pickup routes throughout Kentucky which look to be expanded next year. They have attended several of our recent conventions and are well-liked by the trappers.
My role as president of the League of Kentucky Sportsmen (LKS) has kept me hopping due to the current legislative session in Frankfort and ongoing problems with political interference with our Fish and Wildlife Department. Navigating through this mess has made me appreciate the finest group of sportsmen in the state – The United Trappers of Kentucky. I;m proud to serve as your president, fellow trappers.
