UNITED TRAPPERS OF KENTUCKY PRESIDENT’S REPORT NOVEMBER 2019
Fur season is underway now and I hope each of you enjoys a safe and productive season. Get out there and trap, take a new trapper out there, experiment, and enjoy. With a continuing slow market, the pressure is off to make a large catch, beat yourself up in doing so, and worry about impressing anyone but yourself. Slow down and have fun. Be sure to cover all properties where you have permission, to maintain your trapline for when things improve. Keep contact and good relations with the landowners. Remember how trapping leads to other opportunities for hunting and fishing.
UTK is working to provide markets for your fur this season, since the folding of NAFA. Trappers are becoming distrustful of sending their furs off after having bounced checks and suspicion of pelt swapping. Watch the UTK website for updates, at this time we are looking at “fur get together” sometime in March after all your fur has been put up. We will attempt to locate a facility where trappers and buyers can get together for business and camaraderie.
Due to logistics it looks unlikely we will have a Beaver Brigade in early December, but may be able to have it in March with Commissioner approval.
