Whats your favorite Breed for egg layers, or to take it a couple direction's what Chicken's do you enjoy raising, and ones you'd never raise again.
Not sure if you all noticed but Chicks sold in any store, are gone before the weeks up and they can't get enough. I found a local Hardware/farm supply store, I visited the day after they received there chicks, they probably had a couple hundred chicks of different varieties all Pullets, Within a few days they were cleaned out, and they said there gonna keep ordering till the 1st of June..... Un heard of
Those cross chickens like Golden Comets are good layers just nothing special to look at. My wife and i’s favorites were the Black Australorps. They were great layers and gentle. I like the Colombian Wyandotte but they like to set and will peck the blood out of you. We like big stock brown egg layers. We’re getting some more in a year or two as we want the two little grand girls to see where stuff comes from as much as we can.

I’ve wanted chickens for years and every time I go to one of the farm stores if they’ve got them I get in the mood again but then I look at those little things and think how long it’s going to be before I see an egg. I guess if I started from scratch I’d have to buy some layers then add the chicks as needed. I lucky I get farm fresh eggs from bambam. Nothing better!
If 4 out of 5 people SUFFER from diarrhea... does that mean that one enjoys it?

Bones I've been away from chickens for a couple years now,, taking care of these chicks has been a very rewarding thing for me to keep me occupied besides all the gloom and doom in the world. Not that I can't find a bunch of Work to do or people find for Me. That's another story I really enjoy watching them, so tiny and then they start to get there feathers,, its just a special thing. I know I can go to the store and get eggs cheaper at least I keep telling myself that, but it has been a good thing to get back into.
Ky Trapper I have raised a bunch of Golden Comets over the years and I know what your saying, I will say they are strong producers of brown eggs a lot of peoples favorite for brown eggs, but the down side is when there done, there isn't enough meat on there bones to even try and make a soup out of. I currently wanted to let my Grand children see different varieties , so I have Buff Oringtons, Barred Rock's and some Americana's just for the Easter Eggs
I’ve raised a lot of breeds. Leg horn. Buffs Orpington. Easter eggers. Road island. Ply mount rock. I have copper Marans coming next month. All are good. Best to get eggs from daily are leghorns, buffs and road islands. Others I raise to have color variety in my carton. I get white, tan, brown, blue and green eggs

BamBam who do you order your chicks from? You don't mind me asking
I'm gonna try and order 10 Straight Run Black Astrolop 's I wanna couple roosters and read up on them after Ky Trapper mentioned them. Be my they will be all roosters but I can always thin the heard after they get to size I found a deal were you can order 10 for $20. which I didn't think was to bad
I don’t order chicks. I buy from tractor supply or trade with people I know and sometimes breed what I have. That’s not a bad deal at $2 a piece. I like to get a few of the same breed each year and each year get a different breed. That way I know how old the birds are and can tell them apart when it’s time to rotate them out of my stock.
