UNITED TRAPPERS OF KENTUCKY PRESIDENT’S REPORT MAY 2020
With the entire world seemingly “shut down” because of the virus scare, I have little to report this time around. No interaction has taken place between UTK or KY Fish & Wildlife and its commission…things are essentially on hold.
It was even impossible to get bill status information during the last part of the legislative session. I can report we were successful in getting a bill request pulled (cancelled) which would have outlawed body grip traps. There seems to be no end to the underhanded malice by the leadership of one our “sportsmen” groups here in Kentucky. They are an embarrassment to Kentucky and to outdoorsmen everywhere.
“Social Distancing” seems to be a new national buzzword. We have spring turkey, squirrel, mushroom hunting and fishing to keep us occupied at this time and trappers will adapt well as we always do.
Hopefully, sanity will return in time for the Fall Fling in west Kentucky. Of course the Spring Fling was cancelled, but we thank Allen Risen for his efforts and maybe he can host one for us next spring if the facility is available.
