I figure there’s lots of guys on here that know the answer to this. I have a huge pile of blacktop chunks left for me when the railroad tore out my crossing. I’m wanting to bust up in smaller pieces to fill in some troublesome ruts I can’t keep filled. I got about a ton of pieces I could handle and it’s going to work I think. What’s the best way to break off pieces from the large ones? By hand.

Big sledge or jack hammer would be best You can also heat it and it'll break pretty good we use a Rosebud torch at work but I've thought a time or two if a man was at home he could build him a fire and put them chunks in and break um up then shovel them wear you want it won't set back up like black top but it will harded and pack well, better then gravel eny how. Other then that you bout got to have a piece of equipment!
