What I liked the most at West Ky Free Trapping School : getting together with old friends, making new ones especially the ones from Ky Trapping Forum thatI had never met. the demos, I like to think I learned something from each one. and Leons speech before his demo was powerful. thanks Leon.
I enjoyed it being an actual get together with each other. We have to assemble lest we weaken as an outdoor group. I think it should have been the chigger convention instead of the Covid convention though. I’m eat up. Had to buy some bait, urine and lure even though I swore I wasn’t going to. Lesel sold me talking about his cat bait as did Old South lures with their nutria based bait. The dealers at these meets do a lot of work and driving to set up. Had to have some gator oil to go in with the snakes in a few months.

Like bearwallow said meeting old friends and making new ones and like Steve siad I didn't really need anything but those vendors made the trip so I tried to help them out. Plus the food was great also and Leons speech and demo was great as always. Micah did a heck of a job putting it together
Conversations! I always learn something from the demos but when i have in-depth conversation with experienced trappers, most of whom have forgotten more than i’ll ever know, I learn so much more. Inevitably, I will have a conversation that will reveal a trick or technique that I just can’t believe I didn’t already know. I sometimes try to make things more difficult than they should be just because, in my mind anyway, being a successful Trapper SHOULD be hard. An experienced Trapper always seems to reel me in.... Then you have those conversations that REALLY get your mind whirling about something totally new, something you’ve never tried... I get inspired, go home and set new goals and get excited about trapping all over again! A couple of those conversations were with you Bearwallow and Mr. Pickard. I have to be the only Trapper in Ky that has never caught a mink (on purpose anyway). I’m pretty excited to see your demo on snaring mink at the October meet.
Then, I had a 13 year old boy and his dad come up to me and the boy wanted my advice on what to buy to get started coyote trapping....he took my advice and bought with his own money all that he needed. We talked about putting up fur and where and how to sell. We exchanged numbers and him and his dad are going to come over during season and learn how to put up some fur....kinda made my day. When they left, the boy come and found me a said “Thank you for your help Mr. Wesley”. I kinda hope i’m Becoming one of the “old timers”. Can’t get enough of the good people.
